MIDWIFERY CARE IN EL PASO AND JUÁREZ

Celebrating you as an expert in your body, your baby, and your birth.

OUR CARE PHILOSOPHY

We believe that no one is more invested in the outcome of a birth than the birthing family themselves. It is your body, your baby, and your life that will be shaped by the decisions made along the way. When families have access to clear, evidence-based information, they are empowered to make choices that best align with their unique needs. Our role is not to direct your care, but to walk alongside you, offering our skills, experience, and support. Time and again, we have found that when families are supported in accessing the information they need, they make wise and thoughtful choices for their care.

With this philosophy in mind, we have developed a care model that democratizes access to medical charts and health information. From the very first prenatal visit, each family receives a personal notebook where information from every appointment is recorded. In this model, the client and her partner take the lead in documenting their chart. With guidance from their midwife team, they decide what to include and learn to track their own health trends throughout pregnancy.

Clients are also taught to monitor many of their own vitals and health indicators, including pulse, blood pressure, weight, and urine. They learn how to determine their baby’s position and listen to heart tones, and, if desired, a family member can be shown how to measure the growing belly. In this way, care truly rests in the family’s sacred hands.

“If you want to know where your power really is, you need to look no further than the processes of your own body that you’ve been taught to dismiss, deny, or be afraid of.”

As the birthing family, every decision belongs to you.

    Prenatal Care

Prenatal midwifery care offers a personalized and attentive approach to your pregnancy journey. From the very first visit, your midwife partners with you to monitor your health and your baby’s development, share education, and help you make informed choices about your care.

Our prenatal visits are designed to be thorough and unhurried. We create space to discuss your physical health, emotional well-being, birth preferences, and any questions you may have. All necessary lab work and testing are provided, alongside holistic support that nurtures the whole person.

In the first and second trimesters, we meet monthly, creating space for conversation over tea and healthy snacks. As your due time approaches, visits increase to every two weeks, then weekly from 36 weeks onward. Each visit blends clinical expertise with holistic care, with childbirth education naturally woven in. We focus on equipping you with knowledge about the many possible pathways birth can take, so you can feel confident and empowered in your decisions. Together, we explore your hopes for both birth and postpartum, and you receive curated resources to help you feel prepared every step of the way.

    Labor and Birth

Birth is an intimate and transformative event. The best place to welcome your baby is wherever you feel most safe and supported. We offer birth services both at home and at the Maternidad La Luz Birth Center, where we have privileges. In either setting, we are with you throughout labor, birth, and the first hours afterward, offering continuous monitoring, reassurance, and skilled care. When both parent and baby are stable and well, we leave you with detailed instructions on how to manage the next few hours on your own while we are only a phone call away.

    Postpartum Care
The weeks after birth are a time of profound change for you and your baby, and we believe they deserve the same thoughtful care as pregnancy and birth. Our postpartum support extends well beyond the typical single follow-up visit.

We see you and your baby at about 24 hours, 3 days, and 1 week (optional), then again at 2, 4, and 6 weeks. Each visit includes checks on your healing, lactation support, emotional wellness screening, and complete newborn care. These first months, often called the fourth trimester, are a time of adjustment and bonding, and our regular visits help ease the transition. By six weeks, most parents feel more confident, more settled, and deeply connected with their baby. Though our visits may end, the skills, reassurance, and knowledge you’ve gained will stay with you.

  • Every family deserves quality maternity care, and it is never too late in your pregnancy to change your birth plan. We understand that sometimes families don’t realize until later in pregnancy that they would prefer midwifery care or an alternative birth team. Others may move into our city while already deep in their third trimester. At Manos Sagradas, we welcome clients on an individual basis at any point in their pregnancy, even if you are already at term. If you’re considering a late transfer, please reach out. We’re ready to walk alongside you every step of the way.

  • You do not need to be planning a home birth to benefit from midwifery care. If you have ever left a short OB appointment with more questions than answers, our visits will feel different. In each consultation, we take time to check your vitals, gently palpate your belly, listen to your baby’s heartbeat, and review your overall health. Education is a priority, and we provide resources so you leave each visit feeling informed and confident. We can discuss nutrition, supplements, and routine prenatal tests in detail, ensuring you feel supported in your choices. Before your first visit, we request a short health history and copies of recent labs or ultrasounds. You can book as many appointments as you wish, whether for a single second opinion or ongoing care alongside your primary provider.

  • In the early days after birth, you should not have to leave your home to get the care you need. We bring our services to you, checking in on your healing, examining sutures if needed, monitoring your vitals, weighing your baby, assessing feeding, and providing cord care. We also offer lactation support, gentle herbal or nutritional remedies, and practical guidance to ease your recovery. These visits are especially helpful after a difficult birth, during feeding challenges, or when you simply want attentive care before your baby’s first pediatrician appointment.
