Midwifery care is rooted in trust, respect, and partnership. From the very first visit, our midwifery team takes the time to truly understand your unique journey. You are not seen as a patient, but rather as an active participant in your care. We blend the best of science with compassionate, nurturing support to create a space where you feel seen, heard, and empowered every step of the way.
Unlike typical obstetric appointments, which last an average of 12 minutes, prenatal visits at Manos Sagradas last 45 minutes to an hour. This time allows us to build a deep connection with you and your family and provide the personalized, unrushed care you deserve. To honor this commitment, we limit our client caseload to one to two families per month, ensuring you receive our full attention and dedication.
We provide all the components of prenatal physical exams that you would expect from an obstetrician, including lab work, recommended screening tests, and referrals for ultrasounds. But beyond the standard medical care, we focus on education, prevention, and empowering you with knowledge and confidence to trust your body and your choices throughout your pregnancy journey.
Your visits can take place at a local birth center where we hold privileges, in the comfort of your own home, or at our welcoming home office, which features a large lending library full of books on pregnancy, birth, and motherhood.

A midwife is a dedicated healthcare professional who specializes in supporting healthy mothers and families through pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. At Manos Sagradas, our midwives are credentialed by the North American Registry of Midwives and hold licenses in Texas and New Mexico. We embrace the Midwifery Model of Care, which honors pregnancy and childbirth as natural, physiological events and centers on trusting a woman’s innate ability to grow and birth her baby. Our training focuses on supporting normal birth while always being prepared to recognize when extra care is needed. As your midwifery team, we will walk alongside you throughout your pregnancy journey, emphasizing preventative care, health education, and shared decision-making.

All mammals seek quiet, safe, and familiar places to give birth. A bear retreats to her secluded den, a wolf finds shelter in her hidden lair, and a deer gives birth in the calm of the forest. In these spaces, they follow their body’s natural rhythm without interruption or unnecessary intervention.
Imagine if these animals were taken to a hospital instead, exposed to bright lights, unfamiliar faces, and frequent vaginal exams. Such environments would be overwhelming and disrupt their ability to birth naturally.
Humans, like all mammals, are wired to birth best in environments that feel familiar, intimate, and undisturbed. Planned home birth with a licensed midwife honors these natural instincts while ensuring you have access to medical care and medication if needed.
For healthy, low-risk pregnancies, home birth has been proven to be a safe choice (see our resource list for evidence on home birth safety). At home, you have the freedom to move, eat, hydrate, and rest in a peaceful setting—everything a laboring mammal needs! You can include as many family members and support people as you wish, actively involving them in your birth. Meanwhile, your midwife team will be with you, closely monitoring you and your baby throughout labor, ready to intervene with skilled hands if needed.
Choosing home birth means trusting your body’s natural instincts, embracing a calm and familiar space for birth, and knowing expert medical support is available whenever you might need it.

For healthy, low-risk pregnancies, planned home birth with a licensed midwife is a safe and well-supported choice. Extensive research shows that with proper screening, continuous monitoring, and access to skilled care, outcomes for both mother and baby are comparable to hospital births.
At Manos Sagradas, we carefully assess each family’s health to ensure home birth is appropriate. Throughout labor, we closely monitor you and your baby, and we have established protocols and strong partnerships with local hospitals for seamless transfer if needed.

We recognize that home birth is not for everyone. Some families still want midwifery care and a physiological, low-intervention birth but may not have the space or privacy to birth at home. For these families, you can birth with the Manos Sagradas team at the Maternidad La Luz Birth Center in downtown El Paso. Our privileges at the birth center allow you to experience the freedom, support, and individualized care of a midwife-led birth, while having access to the safety and resources of a fully equipped care facility.

While home birth is a safe option for healthy, low-risk pregnancies, we recognize that birth is inherently unpredictable. In the rare event that complications arise, our midwifery team is well prepared to manage the problem.
As licensed midwives, we are trained in emergency protocols and carry essential medical equipment to every birth, including:
Fetal monitoring equipment to assess the baby’s well-being throughout labor
Oxygen and neonatal resuscitation tools
Anti-hemorrhagic medications to manage postpartum bleeding
IV fluids for hydration and stabilization
Suturing supplies for perineal repair
Beyond equipment, our midwives are highly skilled in recognizing and managing birth emergencies. We maintain current certification in both Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) and regularly refresh our training to stay aligned with best practices in maternal and newborn care.
Should a transfer to a hospital become necessary, we have well-established relationships with local facilities and a clear, organized transport plan. Our goal is to ensure that transitions of care, though uncommon, are handled smoothly, with respect and continuity. If a transfer occurs, we remain by your side as advocates and emotional support, ensuring you are not navigating the experience alone.
Our care is based on the principle of watchful waiting combined with skilled readiness. We trust birth, but we also come prepared. Because your and your baby’s safety are always our highest priority.
